The following Senate bills were introduced:

S. 343. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to permit direct payment under the Medicare program for clinical social worker services provided to residents of skilled nursing facilities. Introduced Feb. 11 by Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), referred to the Committee on Finance.

S. 345. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to prohibit physicians and other health care practitioners from charging membership or other incidental fees (or requiring purchase of other items or services) as a prerequisite for the provision of an item or service to a Medicare beneficiary. Introduced Feb. 11 by Sen. Bill Nelson (DFL), referred to the Committee on Finance.

The following House bill was introduced: H.R. 707. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to permit direct payment under the Medicare program for clinical social worker services provided to residents of skilled nursing facilities. Introduced Feb. 11 by Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA), referred to the Committee on Ways and Means and the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
