BILL WATCH

The following bills were introduced in the Senate:

S. 1750. A bill to provide for the issuance of certificates to Social Security beneficiaries who are born before 1950 guaranteeing their right to receive Social Security benefits under title II of the Social Security Act in full with an accurate annual cost-of-living adjustment. Introduced Sept. 22 by Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) and referred to the Committee on Finance.

S. 1754. A bill to apply the federal medical assistance percentage determined for a State for fiscal year 2005 for FYs 2006 through 2014. Introduced Sept. 22 by Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) and referred to the Committee on Finance.

S. 1774. A bill to amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for the expansion, intensification and coordination of the activities of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute with respect to research on pulmonary hypertension. Introduced Sept. 27 by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

S. 1778. A bill to extend Medicare cost-sharing for qualifying individuals through September 2006, to extend the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program, transitional medical assistance under the Medicaid Program, and related programs through March 31, 2006, and for other purposes. Introduced Sept. 27  by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and referred to the Committee on Finance.

H.R. 3861. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide extended and additional protection to Medicare beneficiaries who enroll for the Medicare prescription drug benefit during 2006. Introduced Sept. 22 by Rep. Pete Stark  (D-CA) and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

H.R. 3870. A bill to amend part D of title XVIII of the Social Security Act to delay for 2 years implementation of the Medicare prescription drug benefit for individuals who are not lowest-income subsidy eligible individuals. Introduced Sept. 22 by Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

H.R. 3875. A bill to improve access to emergency medical services through medical liability reform and additional Medicare payments. Introduced Sept. 22 by Rep. Bart Gordon (D-TN) and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

H.R. 3891. A bill to amend the Social Security Act to provide grants and flexibility through demonstration projects for States to provide universal, comprehensive, cost-effective systems of health care coverage, with simplified administration. Introduced Sept. 22 by Rep. John Tierney (D-MA) and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
