BILL WATCH

The following bills were introduced in the Senate:

S. 1277. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to require hospitals and critical access hospitals, as a condition of participation under the Medicare program, to meet certain requirements in order to advertise that the hospital has the capability of addressing emergency and acute coronary syndromes. Introduced June 21 by Sen. Mike DeWine (R-OH) and referred to the Committee on Finance.

S. 1286. A bill to require states to report data on Medicaid beneficiaries who are employed. Introduced June 22 by Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and referred to the Committee on Finance.

S. 1297. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to reduce the work hours and increase the supervision of resident physicians to ensure the safety of patients and resident-physicians themselves. Introduced June 23 by Sen. Jon S. Corzine (D-NJ) and referred to the Committee on Finance.

S. 1302. A bill to amend the Social Security Act and the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to stop the Congress from spending Social Security surpluses on other government programs by dedicating those surpluses to personal accounts that can only be used to pay Social Security benefits. Introduced June 23 by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) and referred to the Committee on Finance.

The following bills were introduced in the House:

H.R. 3042. A bill to require states to report data on Medicaid beneficiaries who are employed. Introduced June 22  by Rep. Anthony D. Weiner (D-NY) and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

H.R. 3047. A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide for expanded coverage of paramedic intercept services under the Medicare Program. Introduced June 23 by Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

H.R. 3050. A bill to amend title XXI of the Social Security Act to provide grants to promote innovative outreach and enrollment under the Medicaid and state children's health insurance programs, and for other purposes. Introduced June 23 by Rep. Nancy L. Johnson (R-CT) and referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
