Question: When I’m working on the Minimum Data Set (MDS), what does the word “physician” encompass? Just MDs and DOs? Georgia Subscriber Answer: No. According to the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) Manual page 3-4, the term physician “should be interpreted as including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or clinical nurse specialists, if allowable under state licensure laws and Medicare.”
