Question: If a resident is admitted on September 29, can I do both an interim payment assessment (IPA) and an OBRA assessment for that resident on Oct. 1, 2019, when the patient-driven payment model (PDPM) goes into effect? Maine Subscriber Answer: No — the IPA is a stand-alone assessment. You will need to complete an admission assessment and/or five-day assessment for the resident for September and then proceed with an IPA for October, making sure that you set the assessment reference date (ARD) for the IPA between Oct. 1–Oct. 7 for PDPM. The five-day assessment can be combined with an OBRA assessment, CMS says, in a PDPM fact sheet, but, again, the IPA must be a stand-alone assessment — it cannot be combined with any others.
