Stay off the government's radar screen by paying attention to these five areas targeted by the Office of Inspector General's 2004 work plan:
1. Minimum Data Set accuracy and timeliness;
2. Trends in RUG assignments;
3. Nursing compliance with dietary services requirements;
4. Review of antipsychotic drugs prescribed for Medicaid nursing home residents to see if residents have diagnoses of mental illness;
5. Nursing home quality of care and best practices tied to functional status outcomes, staffing measures and organization characteristics.
