Wichita, KS is the worst city in the United States for those who reside in nursing homes, according to a report released by HealthGrades, a private health care quality assessment organization. HealthGrades, which compiles and sells data about nursing homes and other providers, analyzed inspection and complaint data for the four years ending December 2001 in every city with 20 or more nursing homes. According to the report, 80 percent of all Wichita nursing homes had four or more "actual harm" violations in that time period. Nationwide,15percentofallnursinghomes covered in the report had more than five formal complaints, and almost 10 percent repeated the same violation at least twice in the four-year period. Nashville, TN, earned the reports best rating.
