The Florida Medical Directors Association recently spoke out against use of so-called "granny cams" in Florida nursing home bedrooms and bathrooms, a tactic recommended in a report issued by the Florida Attorney General and Agency for Health Care Administration last month. In a statement opposing the video surveillance in residents' private living areas, the FMDA raised concerns about the impact of the cameras on residents' privacy, dignity and confidentiality. The association also believes the electronic eyes will have a negative impact on staff recruitment and discourage family involvement in resident care.
