Residents with the following characteristics are at increased risk for Clostridium difficile infection:

antibiotic exposure;

proton pump inhibitors;

gastrointestinal surgery/manipulation;

long length of stay in healthcare settings;
-
a serious underlying illness;
-
immuno-compromising conditions;
-
advanced age.
