AMDA on the front lines.
On June 30, The Society for Post-Acute and Long Term Care Medicine (AMDA) announced a three-year study led by AMDA members and funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Quality. Working together will be Christopher Crnich, MD, PhD, and David A. Nace, MD, MPH, who will investigate guidelines and tools to help providers manage urinary tract infections (UTIs) better.
The trial will examine existing guidance and research on UTIs to develop comprehensive guidelines and tools geared toward easy implementation at [post-acute/long-term care facilities], says AMDA in a news release. “AMDA has long been respected for improving care in nursing homes and our reputation will be critical to disseminating the results of this project and improving care across the U.S.”
Select facilities from Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina, and Wisconsin will take part in the controlled trial, with half receiving the guidelines and ongoing mentoring, while the other half will operate as normal. After a year of data collection, all of the facilities will be given the guidelines, tools, mentoring, and education, says AMDA.
