A1C checks may fall under a new lab code
The AMA may have assigned a new CPT code to an A1C test that your office already performs.
If your internist checks a diabetes patient's A1C level using one of the following five tests, update your system to report them with 83037-QW (Hemoglobin; glycosylated [A1C] by device cleared by FDA for home use; CLIA-waived test), effective Jan. 1, 2006:
• Bio-Rad Micromat II Hemoglobin A1c Prescription Home Use Test
• Cholestech GDX A1C Test (Prescription Home Use)
• Metrika A1C Now for Prescription Home Use (K020234)
• Provalis Diagnostics Glycosal HbA1c Test
• Provalis Diagnostics In2it Office Analyzer (II) A1C Prescription Home Use Test System.
