Question: I have heard that in the IPPS update, apart from the revisions of the ICD-10 and PCS codes, there is an overhaul of the MS-DRGs as well, including the CC and MCC list. Are there any deletions in the MCC list that I need to be aware of?

Answer: Yes, you are right. The IPPS update this year is really exhaustive, as it brings along with it not just hospital related updates, but also the first ever ICD-10 codes updates, plus revisions to the related MS-DRGs and MCCs.
As for deletions in MCCs, there is a small list that you need to take notice of, including several Nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage codes, pancreatitis codes and a few more.
-
I60.20 (Nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage from unspecified anterior communicating artery)
-
I60.21 (Nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage from right anterior communicating artery)
-
I60.22 (Nontraumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage from left anterior communicating artery)
-
J98.5 (Diseases of mediastinum, not elsewhere classified)
-
K55.0 (Acute vascular disorders of intestine)
-
K85.0 (Idiopathic acute pancreatitis)
-
K85.1 (Biliary acute pancreatitis)
-
K85.2 (Alcohol induced acute pancreatitis)
-
K85.3 (Drug induced acute pancreatitis
-
K85.8 (Other acute pancreatitis)
-
K85.9 (Acute pancreatitis, unspecified)
-
S02.10XB (Unspecified fracture of base of skull, initial encounter for open fracture)
-
S06.0X6A (Concussion with loss of consciousness greater than 24 hours without return to pre-existing conscious level with patient surviving, initial encounter)
However, as for additions in the MCC list, it is recommended that you refer the CMS IPPS update, as the additions are in plenty.
