Hospice News:
It's Business As Usual Again For Hospice Cap Assessments
Published on Sun Jun 17, 2012
Hospices' vacation from cap-related overpayments is over. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has sent a directive to HHH Medicare Administrative Contractors to resume calculating hospice cap amounts and assessing overpayments when applicable, reports the National Association for Home Care & Hospice. CMS also told MACs to inform hospices about the cap calculation methodology, and several contractors already have done so.
For example:
"All hospice aggregate cap calculations shall be calculated using the patient-by-patient proportional methodology for cap year ending on October 31, 2012, and all subsequent years," explains HHH MAC CGS in its message to hospices sent May 17. "Hospices that are under the streamlined method and have not appealed their cap determinations may elect a one-time option to remain under the streamlined method."
