At long last, hospices are getting some data for two new Hospice Quality Reporting Program measures. “Agency-level hospice Quality Measure (QM) reports now include claims-based measures,” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says in a new message to providers. Those measures are the Hospice Care Index (HCI) and Hospice Visits in the Last Days of Life (HVLDL), CMS notes. The measures are based on fiscal year 2018 and 2019 Medicare claims data.
“Hospices have been anxiously waiting to see the reports as no national performance data on either measure was available for hospices to use for benchmarking,” the National Association for Home Care & Hospice says. “Hospices must rely solely on CMS’ calculations of the HCI because hospital claims data is used for some of the indicators comprising this Index and hospices do not have access to this data,” NAHC points out in its member newsletter.
