A Rhode Island hospice and home care provider will take an active role in making sure physicians understand end-of-life care issues. Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University have signed an affiliation agreement that establishes Home & Hospice Care as the major teaching affiliate for hospice and palliative medicine for the school, reports the Providence Business News. "This agreement ... underscores the growing emergence of hospice and palliative care into mainstream medicine," Diana Franchitto, Home & Hospice Care CEO, said in a release. Brown touted its "commitment to ensure that Alpert Medical School students have been trained in the specialized and unique care of patients and their families in the last months and weeks of life," according to Dr. Edward Wing, Brown's dean of medicine and biological sciences.
