Reimbursement constraints continue to take their toll on hospices. Hospice of Southern Illinois will close its 16-bed inpatient facility in Edwardsville, it says on its website. “Several trends in the broader healthcare environment are making it difficult for independent hospice homes to operate sustainably, and those trends continue to impact us, as well,” the hospice says. “Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to close the facility at the end of 2015.”
The thirty-four-year-old hospice that serves about 2,700 patients per year will continue to offer home-based hospice services in its 27 counties, reports the Belleville News-Democrat.
