You may soon be able to get more information about your denied claims. “The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has provided Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) with over 80 detailed denial reason code statements for use when adjudicating home health and hospice claims,” HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS says on its website.

The MACs were set to begin using the detailed denial reason codes beginning Dec. 1, CGS says. “Reason code narratives can be viewed in the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) by accessing the Inquiry Menu and selecting Option 17 — Reason Codes, or by pressing F1 from a claim page.”
