Medicare is moving forward with its hospice patient assessment tool, even if that progress is not on the originally proposed timeline. Reminder: In the 2019 final rule for hospice payment and a July Open Door Forum, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services indicated it was pulling back on its plan to conduct a second, larger pilot test of the Hospice Evaluation and Assessment Reporting Tool this fall. Now CMS has announced the details of its Sept. 26 Special Open Door Forum to “provide a status update” on HEART and take questions, according to a forum notice. The forum is part of CMS’s effort to capture “significant interaction between CMS and stakeholders” over the tool, according to the HEART webpage. A link to the forum notice with dial-in information is in the “Downloads” box at www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/Hospice-Quality-Reporting/HEART.html.
