CMS hints at making the form mandatory.
You can now take a look at CMS’s latest version of the hospice drug prior authorization form. Currently the form is voluntary, but expect to see the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services make it mandatory — perhaps sooner rather than later.
Background: CMS strongly advised its Medicare Advantage plans to start using an earlier version of the form by Oct. 1 of last year (see Eli’s Hospice Insider, Vol. 7, No. 9).
Timeline: “We hope to have this package approved and the final form posted in early 2015,” CMS says in its Paperwork Reduction Act supporting statement for the revision.
However, that form won’t be required right away. “CMS will encourage use of this form as soon as it is approved and will likely propose requiring its use in future rulemaking,” the agency notes.
The form is at www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Legislation/PaperworkReductionActof1995/PRA-Listing-Items/CMS-10538.html.
