Question: Our patient has a Stage 3 pressure ulcer on her right ankle. It's infected with Staphylococcus aureus and is methicillin resistant. How should we code for her? -- Utah Subscriber Answer: Code for pressure ulcers by reporting the site and the stage. Add MRSA information as a secondary code. In this case, you would code: • M0230a: 707.06 (Pressure ulcer; ankle); • M0240b: 707.23 (Pressure ulcer stage III); and • M0240c: 041.12 (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
