Strategy:

Take These Steps In Face Of Compliance Scrutiny

Old saying applies: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The feds continue to ramp up their fraud investigations — and resulting indictments and fraud settlements.

“Innocence does not entirely insulate you from consequence because exoneration comes at a cost,” warns attorney Mark Silberman with law firm Duane Morris. “Investigating and defending these allegations is not inexpensive and too many people only remember the allegation — not the outcome.”

You can head off problems by taking some “preventative care,” he recommends. “The days of honest mistakes are over and one should address a problem before it becomes acute.”

“The roundup is coming to a city near you,” Silberman warns. Make sure you protect yourself by understanding and evaluating your related risk. Then establish policies and practices to minimize any future exposure, he urges in analysis posted on the Duane Morris website.
