Stay tuned for educational materials from CMS on the new face to face encounter (FFE) requirement. "While the long-standing requirement for physicians to order and certify the need for home health remains unchanged, this new requirement assures that the physician's order is based on current knowledge of the patient's condition," CMS says of the new mandate. CMS will issue detailed guidance in a MLN Matters article, a question-and-answer set, and a video training module, the agency promised in an email message to providers. But as of press time, those were not yet available. Resource: In addition to its model FFE documents for HHAs, the National Association for Home Care & Hospice has released model FFE documents for hospices, in conjunction with NAHC affiliate the Hospice Association of America. The hospice and HHA FFE documents are at www.nahc.org/regulatory/home.html.
