Check Out How COVID-19 Hit Companies' Bottom Lines

Chains managed to stay in the black.

In addition to discussing operational and financial details of battling COVID-19, publicly traded home care and hospice companies also reported their latest quarterly earnings.

For the quarter ended March 31, LHC Group Inc. reported net income of $27.7 million on $512.9 million, up from a $23.4 million profit on $502.6 million for the same time period in 2019. Amedisys Inc. reported net income of $32.0 million on revenues of $491.7 million, compared to a $31.6 million profit on $467.3 million in revenues for the year-prior period.

Encompass Health has other business lines including inpatient rehab facilities. For its home health division, it reported $41.0 million in adjusted EBITA on $224.8 million in net operating revenues, compared to $46.3 million in EBITA on $219.5 million in revenues for the year-ago period. For its hospice division, Encompass reported only its net operating revenues for the quarter — $48.0 million versus $34.4 million a year ago.

The Pennant Group Inc. runs a senior living business line. Overall, it reported net income of $2.98 million on $91.8 million in revenues for the quarter, up from a $1.5 million profit on $77.9 million in revenues for the same period in 2019. Its home health and hospice revenues were $56.8 million for the latest quarter, compared to $46.1 million a year ago.

Chemed Corp. operates other business lines including Roto-Rooter. It reported VITAS Corp. net income of $41.3 million on revenues of $337.9 million for the quarter. That compares to $29.3 million profit on $306.8 million in revenues for the year-ago quarter.
