You Don't Have To Enroll In PECOS -- But You May Want To

CMS spokesperson clarifies agency's online enrollment policy. Don't believe everything you read when it comes to your duty to enroll in PECOS. Background: Physicians who order Medicare services are required to use the online Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (PECOS) for Medicare enrollment; edits that will reject claims that are ordered by docs not enrolled in PECOS are imminent (see Eli's HCW, Vol. XX, No. 22, p. 176). But confusion abounds regarding whether home health agencies are required to enroll or revalidate enrollment with PECOS. Question: "I know that physicians must be enrolled in PECOS. What about home care providers?" one Eli's Home Care Week reader asks.
