Reader Question:

Watch Your Mail For Letter Informing You Of Hospice Quality Reporting Status

If you didn’t comply with Hospice Item Set and/or CAHPS data submission requirements last year, you’ll soon pay the price. Keep an eye out for a letter that will let you know if you fall in that group.

“CMS is mailing notifications to hospices that are not in compliance with Hospice Quality Reporting requirements,” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said in a June 21 email to providers. “All notifications will be mailed by June 29.”

CMS used HIS and CAHPS data submission stats from calendar year 2015 to calculate whether your 2017 Medicare payment rates will be docked 2 percent, the agency explained. “If you receive a notice of non-compliance, you have the opportunity to submit a request for reconsideration on quality data submissions affecting your FY 2017 APU,” CMS added. Instructions for the request process are in the letter.
