Public Reporting Of CAHPS Measures Starts In 2011

In the rush of all the new requirements hitting Jan. 1, don't forget to apply for an exemption to the Home Health Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HH CAHPS) patient satisfaction survey requirement. The exemption applies to agencies with less than 60 CAHPS survey-eligible patients from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010, CMS's Lori Teichman explained in the Dec. 1 home care Open Door Forum. Public reporting of five CAHPS measures will begin on Home Health Compare in "Spring 2011," CMS says on its CAHPS website. The three composite measures will be "Care of Patients" (Q9, Q16, Q19, and Q24); "Communications between Providers and Patients" (Q2, Q15, Q17, Q18, Q22, and Q23)," and "Specific Care Issues" (Q3, Q4, Q5, Q10, Q12, Q13, and Q14), notes CAHPS vendor Fazzi Associates on its website.
