Industry Note:

Your Dual-Eligible Patients Have Varying Consumer Protections

Your dual-eligible patients have varying consumer protections depending on the particular programs, payment systems and states, according to a Dec. 5 GAO report. Medicare and Medicaid consumer protection requirements are a mixed bag -- from widely diverging enrollment mandates to different appeals processes. The GAO’s study arose from concerns for dual-eligible beneficiaries’ burden in navigating the rules of both Medicare and Medicaid.
