Cases involving the creation of fake COVID vaccination cards continue. A health system employee in Connecticut has been sentenced to three years’ probation and 200 hours of community service, as well as ordered to pay a $5,000 fine, for making bogus COVID vaccination cards, the Department of Justice says in a release. As a Griffin Health Services Corp. data entry specialist, Zaya Powell traveled to COVID vaccination locations and had access to the electronic health record system, stacks of blank cards, and the Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS) database, DOJ notes. Powell created VAMS records of vaccinations for 14 individuals who did not actually receive the shot, as well as creating fake cards for them with genuine vaccine lot numbers. Four of those people worked at a state health care facility. Powell pled guilty in the case.
