Ask, and ye shall receive. A week after OASIS software vendors were low-key freaking out about the wait for OASIS-E data specs on Medicare’s Home Health Open Door Forum, the agency released them. “I can’t stress strongly enough how important it is to get those specifications out as soon as possible,” one vendor told the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the June 29 forum (see HCW by AAPC, Vol. XXXI, No. 24). A CMS official pledged the specs would be out as soon as possible, and the agency followed through, posting the OASIS Data Submission Specifications Version 3.00.1 on July 6. “This FINAL version applies to the OASIS-E item set, which is scheduled for implementation on January 1, 2023,” CMS says in a message to providers. “There have been significant revisions to the edits for items in Sections A, D and N,” CMS reviews on its OASIS Data Specifications webpage. “Also, several items in Section A (as well as one item in Section B and one item in Section D) now have a new response option: patient declines to respond.” Download the specs online at www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/ HomeHealthQualityInits/DataSpecifications.
