Industry Notes:

Unlicensed Nurse Costs HHA $47K

Make sure checks for expired nursing licenses don’t fall to the bottom of your to-do list, or you may take a financial hit.

Case in point: Ability Plus Home Healthcare Inc. in Michigan has agreed to pay more than $47,000 for allegedly violating the Civil Monetary Penalties Law, the HHS Office for Inspector General says on its website. “OIG alleged that Ability Plus billed Medicare for services provided by a nurse who did not have an active nursing license,” the watchdog agency says.

The settlement amount could have been worse. Ability Plus self-disclosed the problem, the OIG notes.
