UnitedHealth Group Acquisition Of Amedisys Draws Scrutiny On Multiple Fronts

UnitedHealth Group isn’t in the crosshairs just for its Change Healthcare ransomware attack fallout. The Oregon Health Authority is reviewing UHG’s $3.3 billion acquisition of Baton Rouge, La.-based Amedisys Inc., according to press reports. And the Department of Justice is considering filing suit to block the sale under antitrust rules, seekingalpha.com reports. The latter may not be a surprise, considering the DOJ and Federal Trade Commission’s recent aggressive policy changes on antitrust matters (see story, p. x) and the rumor of a more general DOJ antitrust probe of UHG last month (see HHHW by AAPC, Vol. XXXIII, No. 8).
