Industry Notes:

U537F Glitch Won't Die

A Home Health Notice of Admission processing glitch continues to plague home health agencies.

HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor Palmetto GBA closed its NOA Reason Code U537F, Home Health Admission Overlap item on its Claims Payment Issues Log after the April software update, only to discover U537F was still a problem. “RC U537F is continuing to assign incorrectly on some NOAs since the April 2022 System Release implementation,” Palmetto reports in an April 12 entry on its CPIL.

If you have NOAs delayed incorrectly by this glitch, you just have to sit tight. “There is no workaround at this time,” Palmetto reports.

However: “Providers may have had NOAs incorrectly edit for RC U537F, but have had the NOAs approve/process since,” Palmetto explains. “If an NOA is late due to this issue, request a late NOA exception by appending modifier KX to the HIPPS code on the 0023 revenue line and indicate the following in the Remarks field of the claim(s) ‘2022 NOA REASON CODE U537F ISSUE,’” the MAC instructs. “If an exception is not requested on the claim(s), the claim may edit for RC 37364,” Palmetto warns.
