Devastating winter storms that affected Texas may not have triggered as many waivers from Medicare as usual. That’s because Medicare already has waived many regulatory requirements under the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services notes in a release. On Feb. 17, 2021, HHS Acting Secretary Norris Cochran declared a public health emergency for Texas retroactive to Feb. 11, CMS says in a release. But the “CMS Dallas Survey & Enforcement Division, under the Survey Operations Group, will consider other provider-specific requests for healthcare facilities in Texas,” the agency adds in the Feb. 22 release.
