A new Medicare transmittal may clear up some of your lingering questions about hospice Notices of Termination/Revocation. For example, mysterious NOTR rejections may be explained by this addition: “In order for the NOTR to be accepted into the system, an election period must be established. If the notice of election which creates the hospice election period is not submitted and posted before the NOTR, the NOTR will be rejected,” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says in Change Request 11807.
Plus: You don’t need to use occurrence code 42 on NOTRs, “since the through date represents the revocation date,” CMS explains. “Occurrence codes are only necessary on NOTRs when carrying the original revocation date on a correction.” The CR is at www.cms.gov/files/document/r10173cp.pdf.
