Industry Notes:

EEOC Goes After Inova Home Health For Unequal Pay

Employment law-related problems for home health agencies aren’t solely related to Wage and Hour issues.

For example: The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a lawsuit alleging that Inova Home Health in Virginia, owned in part and managed by Alternate Solutions Health Network, is paying its female Post-Acute Care Coordinators less than male PACCs. Female PACCs with no performance issues were paid less than their newly hired male counterparts despite having more job-related experience and more seniority in the PACC position, the EEOC says in a release. ASHN and IHH also refused to adjust female PACCs’ wages after receiving a complaint of pay, the suit charges.

“Equal pay for equal work — it’s a simple premise and important legal obligation,” EEOC’s Debra Lawrence says in the release. “The EEOC will hold employers accountable when they violate this obligation.”
