False claims and Wage and Hour violations aren’t the only things that may land you in court opposite an employee. Freemont Regional Hospice in Canon City, Colo., is facing a religious discrimination lawsuit from a former nurse, reports The Pueblo Chieftain newspaper.
Former part-time nurse Sheri Peter re-ceived an Equal Employment Opportunity Com-mission right to sue notification last November, her attorney says. The lawsuit alleges that during weekly mandatory meetings, employees were asked to tell personal stories and place them in a religious context, usually Catholic in nature, according to the Chieftain. The lawsuit alleges that Peter declined to tell her personal stories because she did not agree with the religious tone the meetings were taking.
Peter alleges she opted out of attending the meetings and was threatened with termination if she did not attend, the lawsuit says.
