Good news for home health agencies in Florida and North Carolina: The Review Choice Demonstration that started Sept. 1 in those states won’t look at claims retroactively. “The demonstration is now fully implemented in Florida and North Carolina,” a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services spokesperson told AAPC on Sept. 1. “Only claims with a date of service beginning on and after September 1, 2021 will be subject to prepayment review and receive an Additional Development Request if they are submitted without a Unique Tracking Number and a pre-claim review decision,” the CMS source said. “This was really welcome news,” cheers M. Aaron Little with BKD in Springfield, Missouri. “Being able to have a clear directive that RCD is to be enforced on payment periods beginning on/after 09/01/21 is much easier for agencies to manage,” Little tells AAPC. RCD is a heavy burden as is, without adding the complication of the prior instructions.” Hurricane Ida may also add to agencies’ burdens in those states right as they are trying to adjust to the demo. “Trying to manage RCD on top of the complications created by the hurricane could be very difficult,” Little worries.
