Industry Notes:

RCD Gets With The Maintenance Therapy Program

With the new year comes a change that will clear up a Review Choice Demonstration billing code problem.

Recap: Back in May, the Centers for Medicare & Med-icaid Services released a transmittal explaining how home health agencies could use two new G codes for therapist assistant maintenance therapy starting in October (see HCW by AAPC, Vol. XXIX, No. 18). Then it implemented the changes as scheduled.

The codes are G2168 (Services performed by a physical therapist assistant in the home health setting in the delivery of a safe and effective physical therapy maintenance program, each 15 minutes) and G2169 (Services performed by an occupational therapist assistant in the home health setting in the delivery of a safe and effective occupational therapy maintenance program, each 15 minutes).

But apparently, the RCD program did not accept the codes. Now that will change, says RCD contractor Palmetto GBA. “On January 4, 2021, RCD providers can begin submitting pre-claim review (PCR) requests with these new HCPCS G-codes,” Palmetto says on its website. “Medicare systems will accept these requests when submitted on or after January 1, 2021 for dates of service on or after January 1, 2020.”
