Providers To Give CMS A Piece Of Their Minds About Emergency Prep

Watch for potential EP changes in the future.

The COVID-19 public health emergency has dominated the landscape for most home health and hospice agencies the past few years, but Medicare wants to hear from providers regarding non-COVID emergencies.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services “is looking to gather information from health care providers and suppliers on their experiences providing support during public health emergencies (PHE) outside of the COVID-19 PHE,” CMS says in a new message to providers. “The input and lessons learned from this session will be used to evaluate CMS regulations regarding emergency preparedness for certain health care providers,” the agency says.

CMS will hold a listening session on Sept. 13, but the session is already full.

The questions CMS poses in the invitation might give providers a clue as to the agency’s intentions in the EP arena, however. “Do the current CMS emergency preparedness regulations create any unintended barriers in your work?” the agency asks. “What additional resources could you use as you update your plans?” CMS also inquires. “Does your process include any type of ‘failure analysis’ or other assessment that helps to identify and correct any issues experienced during an emergency?” is another question CMS offers.

More information about the listening session is on its registration page at https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/ WN_zoIS8Q6US5q4V1XGzFDatw.
