Provider Shells Out $10 Million In COVID Vax Mandate Lawsuit.

Religious exemption denials were at issue.

Has exposure to litigation based on your COVID vaccination procedures been on your mind? A recent legal settlement might amp up those worries.

The NorthShore University Health System based in Evanston, Illinois, has agreed to pay $10.3 million to settle a lawsuit filed by 14 employees who had their religious exemptions for the COVID vaccination denied, according to press reports. The fund will provide compensation to about 523 of the health system’s current or former employees who were denied religious exemptions between July 2021 and January 2022.

All employees terminated because of their refusal to get vaccinated for religious reasons will be eligible to be rehired at their previous level of seniority, and the health system has updated its exemption process, it says.
