Allegheny Health Network and Celtic Healthcare Inc. are forming a for-profit joint venture that will create the second-largest home care provider in Western Pennsylvania, behind rival UPMC, according to press reports.
AHN will own 60 percent of the company and Celtic will manage it. “Last year, we were barely able to service 50 percent of the patients discharged from our own hospitals” who needed home care or hospice, an Allegheny rep told the Tribune-Review.
AHN is already the area’s fourth-largest home care provider, notes the Pittsburgh Business Times. Celtic also has locations in Maryland, Mis-souri and Illinois.
The new company will serve about 300 hospice and 1,500 home health patients. It expects to grow significantly in 2015, the rep said.
