Peek At NOA Instructions To MACs
You’ve now got more home health NOA information at your fingertips. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has issued a transmittal with Notice of Admission processing instructions for HHH Medicare Administrative Contractors. Change Request 12227 issued May 20 comes on the heels of a recent Medicare Claims Processing Manual update to Chapter 10 to incorporate NOAs (see HCW by AAPC, Vol. XXX, No. 18) and an 11-page NOA Companion Guide (see HCW by AAPC, Vol. XXX, No. 15). CR 12227 is at www.cms.gov/files/document/r10795otn.pdf. Recap: The current no-pay Requests for Anticipated Payment will go away at the end of this year, and NOAs will replace them on Jan. 1. CMS finalized NOA requirement in its 2020 home health payment final rule issued Oct. 31, 2019 .
