A few more New York counties are considering getting out of the home care business. The Washington County Health Committee is moving forward with soliciting potential buyers for its health services, including a certified Home Health Agency, Long Term Health Care Program, and Hospice, as well as Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, the Adult Home and the Adult Day Care, reports the Glenns Falls Post Star. It may take up to two years to sell the services, if the county receives adequate bids for them, the newspaper says. The health services have been losing money for years. And the state's Yates County is seeking proposals for its operating certificate for the Community Home Health Agency, reports the Geneva Finger Lakes Times. The deadline for the proposals is April 27. In both cases, soliciting proposals doesn't mean the county must sell. Some residents argue that the counties should continue to offer public health options such as home care.
