Move over, America's Most Wanted. The HHS Office of Inspector General has its own list of fugitives, and these men and women are accused of defrauding the federal health care systems. In launching its first-ever such list, "the OIG is asking the public's help in tracking down fugitives," Inspector General Daniel R. Levinson says in a release. "The public has a stake in the fight against fraud, waste, and abuse." Home care is represented on the list with two durable medical equipment suppliers -- Leonard Nwafor of Pacific City Medical Equipment in the Los Angeles area, and Eduardo Moreno of Miami. Nwafor was convicted of conspiracy and health care fraud in 2008 and sentenced to nine years in prison in absentia. Nwafor was accused of billing more than $1 million for medically unnecessary DME and using physicians' UPINs to bill even when the docs didn't examine the patients. Moreno submitted false DME claims and used a straw owner and other methods to hide the money and property he obtained from the scheme, the OIG says.
