Industry Notes:

Nurse Owners Sell Decades-Old Agency

A former hospital executive has purchased Tyler, Texas-based Genesis Homecare & Hospice, reports the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Oran Ferrell III bought the majority interest in the 20-year-old agency from co-founding nur-ses Susan Sharp and Stephanie Smitson, the newspaper says. Sharp and Smitson retain a 10 percent stake in the agency, and Sharp will continue in a consulting capacity for two years to teach Ferrell the intricacies of the business, according to the Telegraph.

Ferrell thought about opening a food truck business in his retirement, but decided to use his decades of health care experience instead, the paper says. He hopes to improve care coordination be-tween acute and post-acute settings via the agency.

Genesis has more than 50 employees in three locations that serve 10 counties, and about 225 patients, including 25 in hospice care.
