Industry Notes:

NQF Gives New Measure Thumbs Up

The new Hospice Visits in the Last Days of Life quality measure now has the NQF’s official seal of approval. The National Quality Forum endorsed the claims-based measure on July 26, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says in a message to providers.

Reminder: “HVLDL reflects the proportion of hospice patients who received in-person visits from a registered nurse or a medical social worker on at least 2 of the final 3 days of life,” CMS reviews. “HVLDL is the re-specified measure replacing the HIS-based Hospice Visits When Death is Imminent (HVWDII).”

Public reporting of the measure begins this month, after a delay in May (see HCW by AAPC, Vol. XXXI, No. 24).
