New Legislation Aims To Secure Hospital-At-Home Waiver Extension

The latest omnibus budget legislation extended Public Health Emergency waivers for telehealth, but not for hospital-at-home programs. A new piece of legislation now seeks to make that change.

The Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act (H.R. 7053) introduced on March 9 seeks “to extend acute hospital care at home waiver flexibilities,” it notes. The extension would last two years.

“As of February 2022, there were 92 health systems and 202 hospitals in 34 states participating in the hospital at home waiver program,” the National Association for Home Care & Hospice notes in its support of the bill. Bill details are at https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/7053.
