Background: Under the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services narrowed the scope of the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement program “to concentrate on infection control issues while retaining the requirement that remaining activities should continue to focus on adverse events,” CMS notes in its Home Health COVID-19 flexibilities sheet. “CMS will end this waiver at the conclusion of the ... PHE,” aka May 11, the sheet says. Home health agencies can use the tool to identify areas for improvement, CMS noted in a March 30 webinar about the tool. Then, they can develop an action plan to improve those areas.
