One-time hazard pay is on its way to almost 26,000 home health and personal care aides who serve elderly and disabled Virginians in their homes, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch. But the state is routing the funds through their employer agencies.
Still pending in state legislation are pay hikes for those workers, the Times-Dispatch notes. They will be necessary so agencies can pay their employees when a minimum wage hike to $9.50 takes effect on May 1 and then another to $11 takes place next Jan. 1, industry representatives told the newspaper.
