Medicare Reconfigures Local Coverage Decisions
You can check out updates to the local coverage billing and coding articles for Hospice - Liver Disease (A56669), Home Health Speech-Language Pathology (A53052) and Home Health - Psychiatric Care (A56756), which will take effect Oct. 1. Background: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is moving diagnosis codes out of local coverage decisions (LCDs) and into billing and coding articles such as these. “The LCD and the Billing and Coding Article are companion documents,” CMS explains. “They will be related to each other, and Medicare Coverage Database users can see the relationship and access the related document by navigating to the ‘Related Local Coverage Documents’ section in either the LCD or Article.” MCD, which houses the LCDs and articles, has also undergone a search makeover. Users can “search for Medicare coverage documents with keywords, by ICD-10 and CPT/ HCPCS codes, or by document IDs using a single search term box,” CMS explains. “The new page has been streamlined to promote user friendliness, simplicity, and speed.” The MCD is at www.cms.gov/medicare-coverage-database.
